The President of the Catholic Women Organisation (CWO), St. Stephen’s Parish, Little Wood Estate, Obosi, has urged mothers to promote modest dressing and christian values in their homes as part of efforts to curb growing moral decadence in society.
The CWO President made the call during a pastoral visit to the parish on August 12, expressing concern over the rising incidence of indecent dressing, particularly among young people. She said mothers, as the first teachers and role models of their children, had an important responsibility to demonstrate the values they expect their children to uphold.
According to her, some young girls are increasingly adopting styles of dressing that do not reflect Christian values, stressing that parents must take greater responsibility for guiding their children. “As mothers, we must lead by example. The way we dress speaks volumes about our faith and values. We cannot condemn what our children are doing when we ourselves are promoting indecency,” she said.
She urged mothers to dress with modesty, teach their children the fear of God and pay closer attention to their children’s friends, associations and influences.
The CWO President also called for stronger collaboration between parents and the Church in restoring moral discipline within families, noting that character formation begins largely in the home.
She further appealed to schools, religious organisations and the media to intensify public enlightenment on the consequences of indecent dressing and other practices capable of weakening moral values among young people.
