COOUTH CMD SEEKS STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS TO DRIVE WORLD-CLASS HEALTHCARE

The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH), Amaku, Awka, Dr. Maureen Uche Umeakuewulu, has reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to transforming the institution into a world-class teaching hospital through strategic partnerships.
Dr. Umeakuewulu made this known on June 24 while receiving the Managing Director of Joint National Committee (JNC) International, Mrs. Claire Omasheye, and her delegation during a courtesy visit to her office.
The visit was aimed at congratulating the CMD on her appointment and exploring opportunities for collaboration in healthcare infrastructure, medical equipment, capacity building, and the provision of specialised medical services.
Welcoming the delegation, Dr. Umeakuewulu described COOUTH as a critical institution in Anambra State’s healthcare system, noting that it is the state’s only government-owned tertiary healthcare facility and the only hospital in the South-East with a dedicated Trauma Centre.
She highlighted the hospital’s key strengths, including its modern Radiology Department, advanced Molecular Laboratory, and expanding capacity in medical research, innovation, and community medicine. She also noted that COOUTH extends its healthcare services through its satellite facilities in Amawbia, Agulu, and Ezinifite.
The CMD commended JNC International for its interest in partnering with the hospital and reaffirmed her administration’s resolve to leverage strategic collaborations to enhance patient care and strengthen the institution’s capacity to deliver quality healthcare services.
Earlier, the Managing Director of JNC International, Mrs. Claire Omasheye, congratulated Dr. Umeakuewulu on her appointment as the first female Chief Medical Director of COOUTH, describing the achievement as a significant milestone for gender inclusion and leadership in the healthcare sector.
Mrs. Omasheye disclosed that JNC International collaborates with more than 30 reputable companies to provide advanced medical equipment and innovative healthcare solutions. She stated that the company has extensive expertise in supplying and supporting equipment for operating theatres, radiology, radiography, laparoscopic surgery, and other specialised medical services.
Expressing optimism about the proposed collaboration, she said a partnership with COOUTH would significantly improve healthcare delivery in Anambra State.
She further identified potential areas of collaboration to include In-Vitro Fertilisation (IVF), open-heart surgery, laparoscopic surgery, cardiology, invasive and non-invasive procedures, staff training and retraining, equipment maintenance, technical support, and after-sales services.
