The Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH), Amaku, Awka, has announced a one-week free cancer screening programme to commemorate the 66th birthday of Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo.
The announcement was made in a public notice issued by the Teaching Hospital on July 26, ahead of the Governor’s birthday on July 28, 2026. The initiative is aimed at promoting early detection and raising awareness of common cancers among residents.
According to the hospital, the programme will offer free cervical cancer screening through Pap smear for women aged 25 to 65 years, mammography for women aged 40 years and above, and Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) tests for men aged 40 years and above.
COOUTH disclosed that the first 100 eligible men will benefit from free PSA screening as part of efforts to encourage early detection of prostate cancer and improve treatment outcomes.
The screening exercise is scheduled to hold from July 27 to July 31, 2026, beginning at 8:00 a.m. daily, at the Departments of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Radiology, COOUTH, Amaku, Awka.
The hospital encouraged eligible residents to take advantage of the free screening, noting that early detection remains one of the most effective ways to improve treatment outcomes and save lives.
COOUTH described the initiative as its special birthday gift to Governor Soludo, while reaffirming its commitment to expanding access to preventive healthcare and improving the health and well being of residents across Anambra State.
