Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) has recorded a major academic milestone as all 35 students in the pioneer set of its Department of Medical Laboratory Science achieved a 100 per cent success rate in their final professional examinations.

The examinations, held on October 14, followed the arrival of representatives of the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) at the University on October 13.

The outstanding performance marked a significant achievement for the University, as the pioneer students have completed their academic and professional examination requirements, subject to the applicable certification and registration processes.

The success represents the culmination of years of lectures, practical training, assessments and dedication. As the first cohort of the Department, the students have completed their programmes without delay, setting a positive precedent for future students and establishing a strong foundation for the programme’s growth.

The achievement also highlighted the pioneering contributions of Prof. M.N. Orji, Dean of the Faculty, and Prof. Chinelo Umedum, whose efforts helped establish the foundation of the programme and paved the way for the successful emergence of its first cohort.

The Head of Department, Dr. Stella Afulukwe, expressed joy and gratitude over the students’ performance, attributing their success to their hard work, determination and commitment, as well as the dedication and sacrifices of the academic staff. She also acknowledged the support of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, towards the Department’s progress.

The milestone further underscored COOU’s commitment to academic excellence under the administration of Prof. Omenugha, whose leadership continued to promote the University’s 3Vs of Values, Viability and Visibility.

For the pioneer students, the achievement marked the end of a significant academic chapter and the beginning of their journey towards professional practice. Their success is a source of pride for the Department and the University, demonstrating the importance of visionary leadership, institutional support and quality professional training.

As COOU continued to pursue its vision as the Now University and University of the Future, this accomplishment stands as a testament to the collective efforts of the programme’s pioneers, the current Department leadership, the students and the University administration.
