The Member representing Okpoko Constituency I in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Noble Chukwunonso Igwe has emphasized that the Constituency Empowerment Fund is intended to address the needs of the people and not for the personal benefit of legislators.
Hon. Igwe made the assertion during an interview with newsmen at Nkitaku, Okpoko, stressing the importance of ensuring that the fund is judiciously utilized to deliver the dividends of democracy to constituents, particularly those in rural and underserved communities.
According to the lawmaker, constituency needs can be addressed through the execution of people-oriented projects such as the construction of roads, drainage systems, town halls and other essential infrastructure, as well as through financial assistance to individuals facing economic hardship.
He noted that the provision of basic amenities and improved infrastructure in communities enhances residents’ sense of belonging and strengthens public confidence in government.
Highlighting some of the projects he has undertaken in his constituency, Hon. Igwe listed the construction of a town hall and a security post, payment of house rents and school fees for indigent persons, as well as the rehabilitation of dilapidated roads within the area.
The lawmaker urged his colleagues in legislative positions to prioritize the welfare and needs of their constituents above personal interests, noting that public office is a call to service.
Hon. Igwe pledged to remain committed to people-oriented leadership and to continue initiating programmes and projects that would improve the living conditions of residents in his constituency.
He reiterated that effective utilization of constituency funds remains a vital tool for grassroots development and sustainable community growth.
