Staff of the Anambra State Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning have been equipped with practical life-saving skills following a comprehensive First Aid training organised by the Nigerian Red Cross Society on July 8.
The workshop, held at the Interagency Hall, Jerome Udorji Secretariat, Awka, was designed to strengthen participants’ ability to respond effectively to medical emergencies through practical demonstrations and hands-on exercises.
Declaring the training open, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Chinyere Nwabachili, described the programme as a timely and worthwhile investment in human life. She commended the Nigerian Red Cross Society for partnering with the ministry and encouraged participants to make the most of the opportunity.
Mrs. Nwabachili urged staff to participate actively, ask questions, and pay close attention throughout the training, noting that the knowledge acquired would not only help them protect themselves but also enable them to save the lives of family members, colleagues, neighbours, and other members of the public and to pass the knowledge on to others.
Resource persons from the NRRCS, Miss Onyinye Elijah and Mrs. Ada Igwe, facilitated practical sessions on wound management, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), accident response, and basic life support.
They emphasised that the first few minutes after an emergency are often critical and that prompt, appropriate intervention can significantly improve survival outcomes.
The facilitators also encouraged participants to become advocates for safety by promoting a culture of preparedness both within the workplace and in their various communities.
Participants described the initiative as highly beneficial, expressing confidence that the skills they acquired would prepare them to serve as effective first responders in their offices, homes, and communities whenever emergencies arise.
