The Catholic Bishop of Aguleri Diocese, Most Rev. Denis Chidi Isizoh, has urged students of Stella Maris College, Umueri, to develop themselves into responsible individuals who would contribute meaningfully to society and allow their talents to shine. Bishop Isizoh gave the charge during his homily on Sept 27, while on a pastoral visit to Stella Maris College, Umueri.
He urged the students to embrace responsibility and become solution providers rather than individuals who create problems for others to solve, stressing the importance of personal initiative and collective responsibility.
The bishop, while reflecting on the saying, “Everybody’s business is nobody’s business,” encouraged the students not to sit back and complain about challenges in their school or community, but to contribute their quota towards addressing such challenges, no matter how small their contributions might be.

He also drew the students’ attention to the meaning of the word “Stella,” which is Latin for “star,” noting that although stars may appear small from a distance, they shine brightly. According to him, every student of Stella Maris college is being prepared to shine like a star, adding that the process of developing that potential begins while they are still in school.
Bishop Isizoh, however, stressed that students cannot shine merely by eating, playing and passing time in school, but must take advantage of the opportunities provided by the institution to acquire knowledge, skills and valuable experiences.
He noted that Stella Maris College, Umueri, like other educational institutions, is committed to providing quality education and nurturing the potential of its students to enable their individual “stars” to shine.
The Bishop further encouraged the students to make themselves available for learning and personal development, emphasizing that true development goes beyond classroom activities and academic performance.
He expressed appreciation to the School Manager, Rev. Fr. Anthony Dinyelu; the Principal; members of the management team; teachers; parents; non-academic staff; and students for their various contributions to the growth and development of Stella Maris College, Umueri.
