The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev. Paulinus Chukwuemeka Ezeokafor, has commended the Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, for what he described as significant achievements in infrastructure development, security, and the restoration of normalcy across the state.
Bishop Ezeokafor made the commendation on July 18 during the priestly ordination of six priests at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Awka.
He lauded the Soludo administration’s ongoing infrastructure projects, describing them as clear evidence of purposeful leadership and a strong commitment to the sustainable development of Anambra State.
The Bishop also acknowledged the government’s sustained efforts to improve the security of lives and property, noting that the enhanced security situation has restored public confidence and stimulated socio-economic activities in many communities across the state.
Speaking on the government’s campaign against the Monday sit-at-home order, Bishop Ezeokafor observed that the initiative has contributed significantly to restoring normal social and economic activities in Anambra. He urged residents to continue supporting efforts aimed at promoting lasting peace, security, and stability.
The cleric further commended the state’s campaign against individuals allegedly engaged in fraudulent spiritual practices, including fake native doctors, self-proclaimed ezenwanyis, and fake pastors. According to him, the exercise is necessary to sanitise society, protect unsuspecting citizens, and discourage criminal activities masquerading as religious or traditional practices.
He also encouraged eligible Nigerians, particularly young people, to register for and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), stressing that active participation in the electoral process is vital to strengthening democracy and promoting accountable governance.
While acknowledging the progress recorded in Anambra State, Bishop Ezeokafor expressed concern over the country’s prevailing insecurity and economic hardship. He called on governments at all levels to adopt more proactive and sustainable measures to tackle the nation’s security and economic challenges.
The Bishop further cautioned against Nigeria’s rising debt profile, urging the government to exercise fiscal prudence by moderating borrowing and implementing sound economic policies that would safeguard the country’s long-term development and prosperity.
