Workers in Awka South Local Government Area have been cautioned to exercise restraint in their use of technological devices due to potential health risks associated with electromagnetic waves.
At a seminar held at the Awka South Secretariat podium, Dr. Uche Nwaku, a health expert from Shabnam Technology in Lagos, emphasized the importance of responsible technology use. He warned that excessive and careless reliance on devices such as smartphones, laptops, and earphones could expose users to harmful electromagnetic radiation.

“We are supposed to apply caution in handling our technological devices to reduce the challenges that accompany their usage.
Records have shown that these devices contribute to various health challenges that may shorten human life.”
The seminar, approved by the Local Government Services Commission, examined the impact of technology on human health. It highlighted destructive practices, raised awareness of risks, and offered possible solutions.
Dr. Nwaku noted that many people remain unaware of the dangers posed by electromagnetic waves and urged workers to spread the information within their communities to help reduce sudden deaths and health complications.

He stressed that adopting safer habits such as limiting prolonged exposure to devices and being mindful of environmental health could help mitigate risks.
The interactive session showed workers’ concerns about the absence of clear strategies to limit exposure. Participants called for practical guidelines to balance technology use with health protection.
The awareness campaign marks a proactive step by Awka South LGA in addressing growing concerns about the intersection of technology and public health.
