AUGUST MEETING STRENGTHENS WOMEN’S UNITY, COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT — PG

The President General of the Obosi Development Union, Women Wing, Mrs Augusta Ebunam, has described the annual August Meeting as an important platform for women to strengthen unity, preserve cultural values and contribute to community development.

Speaking in an interview on Aug. 20, Mrs Ebunam said the gathering provides women with an opportunity to identify community needs, support vulnerable members and mobilise resources for projects that improve the lives of residents.

She noted that beyond development initiatives, the August Meeting allows women living at home and in the diaspora to reconnect, share ideas, resolve differences and strengthen their bonds.

According to her, the gathering also plays an important role in preserving Igbo culture by encouraging participation in cultural activities and providing younger generations with opportunities to learn about their heritage and traditions.

Mrs Ebunam identified unity, cooperation, sacrifice, leadership, accountability and community service as key values promoted by the annual meeting.

She said sustained communication, regular meetings, cultural and social activities, greater participation in decision-making and the effective use of platforms such as WhatsApp would help improve engagement and strengthen cooperation among women.

The president general urged women to continue using the August Meeting as an avenue to promote peace, support one another and contribute meaningfully to the development of their communities.
