The Executive Chairman of the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB), Dr. Justina Anyadiegwu, has called on guidance counsellors, teachers, school owners and education officers across the state to remain dedicated to supporting the social, emotional and academic growth of learners.
Speaking on June 11 during the 2025/2026 Third Term Staff Forum for Counsellors, Dr. Anyadiegwu highlighted the critical role educators play in shaping the lives and future of children both within and beyond the classroom.
She described teachers as counsellors whose influence extends beyond academic instruction, helping learners navigate personal, socia, and developmental challenges. According to her, the forum served as a valuable platform for participants to share experiences, assess progress and develop strategies aimed at improving educational outcomes in Anambra State.
The ASUBEB chairman also commended the Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, for his sustained investment in the education sector through infrastructure development, capacity building, technology integration and innovative learning initiatives.
She noted that these interventions are positioning schools in the state to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving, technology-driven world.
Dr. Anyadiegwu acknowledged the growing challenges facing learners, including social pressures, mental health concerns, family-related issues and career uncertainties, stressing that guidance counsellors remain central to helping students overcome these obstacles and achieve their full potential.
In her remarks, Mrs. Christy Chukwuma, Academic Service Director, described the forum as an important avenue for engagement between staff and management, saying the gathering encouraged the exchange of ideas, fostered mutual understanding and provided an opportunity to collectively address challenges affecting the basic education system.
According to her, such interactions are essential for developing practical solutions that will strengthen the delivery of quality basic education across the state.
The forum featured presentations on creating child-friendly learning environments, promoting digital literacy and the safe use of technology, as well as enhancing parental involvement in learners’ academic development. The sessions focused on equipping education stakeholders with strategies to better support pupils in an increasingly dynamic learning environment.
