The Anambra State Town Union Councils Youth Wing (ASTUC Youth) has commenced its value orientation campaign in Anambra West Local Government Area with the recognition of 10 outstanding community role models, one from each of the 10 communities in the area. The event, held on August 14 at Nzam Town Hall, marked the organisation’s seventh LGA engagement in its campaign to promote positive values and youth development across Anambra State.
Speaking at the event, the President General of ASTUC Youth, Comrade Ken Okoli, said the initiative was designed to honour individuals who had distinguished themselves through their contributions to community development and youth advancement. He said the awardees had also been appointed ambassadors of the state’s value system to inspire, motivate and guide young people through positive examples.

Comrade Okoli said the campaign seeks to reinforce the identity of Ndi Anambra as “the light of the nation,” and is anchored on 12 core values, including fear of God, patriotism, self-reliance, discipline, respect for life, truth, liberty, justice, community, dignity of labour, religious and ethnic tolerance, and love. He urged youths to embrace the values and shun activities capable of undermining their future and the image of the state.
According to him, the initiative aligns with the governance agenda of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, noting that the role model recognition programme, which began in 2025, is being implemented in phases across the 179 communities in the state to promote positive values, responsible leadership and good citizenship among youths.

In his address, the Chairman of the occasion, High Chief Daniel Chukwudi Obiora, represented by Comrade Okwudili Nwadiukwu, urged youths to uphold integrity, discipline and selfless service, describing good character as the foundation of responsible leadership. He commended ASTUC Youth for celebrating individuals who had contributed meaningfully to their communities, while describing Nzam as an agrarian community and major food-producing area.
High Chief Ikwunne commended the programme and called for greater attention to community development and infrastructure, while High Chief Osita Offozor of Ezi Anam described his recognition as well deserved, citing his contributions to education and humanitarian activities. He urged youths to uphold values capable of building a better society and called on ASTUC Youth to sustain the initiative.
One of the awardees, Dr. Ikechi Uneojo of Olumbanasa, expressed appreciation for the recognition, describing it as a call to greater responsibility. He reaffirmed his commitment to tackling social vices in his community and urged the awardees to continue demonstrating integrity and uprightness while transferring such values to younger generations. Mr. Okafor Chukwudi, another awardee, encouraged youths to embrace hard work and support initiatives promoting their development.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of Anambra Community Youth Awards to role models from the 10 communities in Anambra West. The programme also featured the introduction of the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) as part of efforts to tackle cultism, drug abuse and other social vices among youths, with community leaders, young people and other stakeholders in attendance.
