The Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA) has confirmed that some traders in the state are already enrolled in and benefiting from its health insurance scheme. ASHIA Head of Department, Mrs. Chinelo Chukwuneke, disclosed this on Aug. 22, during a gathering of traders and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidates organised by the Anambra State Markets Amalgamated Traders Association (ASMATA).
Mrs. Chukwuneke encouraged more traders to enrol in the scheme, explaining that subscribers could access healthcare through the ASHIA card and enjoy discounts on eligible medical bills. She also announced that the annual subscription would increase from N12,000 to N19,500 from September.
Also speaking, Permanent Secretary, Anambra State Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Engr. Michael Obiekwe, addressed issues concerning traders and the government’s efforts in the commerce sector.
In his remarks, Obiekwe emphasised the importance of cooperation between government and traders in advancing the interests of the state’s commercial sector.
Chairman, Sokoto Line Traders Association, Onitsha Main Market, Hon. Emeka Mbachu, appealed to Governor Chukwuma Soludo to follow through on his position concerning landlords and tenants, saying that many people, including traders, would benefit if the intervention was implemented.
Hon. Mbachu described Soludo as a Governor who does what he says he will do, expressing confidence that he would also address the landlord-tenant concerns.
The remarks at the gathering touched on issues of importance to traders, including access to healthcare and matters affecting their businesses and livelihoods.
