The Anambra State Traffic Management Agency (ARTMA) has urged motorists to pay close attention to road warning signs, hazards and intersection signs as part of efforts to prevent crashes and promote safer roads across the state.
The agency gave the advice in an advisory issued on August 8, stressing that proper understanding and observance of traffic signs are essential to responsible driving and road safety. ARTMA explained that warning signs are designed to alert motorists to potential hazards ahead, advising drivers to reduce their speed, remain vigilant and exercise caution when approaching such areas.

According to the agency, the bend sign alerts motorists to dangerous curves ahead and requires them to slow down, maintain proper control of their vehicles and negotiate bends carefully. It also noted that the slippery road sign warns motorists of potentially slippery road surfaces, particularly during rainfall, urging drivers to reduce their speed and exercise greater caution.

The agency further explained that the road-narrows sign indicates a reduction in road width ahead, advising motorists to slow down, maintain proper lane positioning and proceed carefully through such sections.
On intersection safety, ARTMA noted that intersections are among locations where road crashes frequently occur. It therefore urged motorists to observe traffic signs, reduce their speed and ensure that the road ahead is clear before proceeding.

The agency explained that the crossroad sign alerts motorists that another road intersects the road ahead, while the T-junction sign indicates that the road terminates at another roadway. ARTMA also highlighted the roundabout sign, which alerts drivers to the presence of a roundabout ahead. Motorists, it said, should slow down, watch out for other road users and proceed with caution.

The agency called on motorists and other road users to support the efforts of the Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, and ARTMA towards achieving greater sanity and safety on Anambra roads through responsible and disciplined driving.

ARTMA stressed that staying alert, obeying warning signs and exercising caution at hazardous locations are essential responsibilities of every road user, urging motorists to remain vigilant and “arrive alive.”
