ARTMA CRACKS DOWN ON E-BIKE USE, INTRODUCES MANDATORY WAIVER FOR MAJOR ROADS IN ANAMBRA.

The Anambra State Road Traffic Management Agency (ARTMA) has announced new regulations for electric bike owners, making it mandatory for riders intending to use major roads across the state to obtain a waiver from the Ministry of Transport and wear crash helmets while riding.

The directive, issued in a public notice by the agency dated August 3, forms part of the ongoing efforts by the Anambra State Government to strengthen road safety, improve traffic management, and ensure the orderly integration of electric bikes into the state’s transportation system.

According to the notice, all electric bike owners who wish to operate on major roads must first secure an official waiver from the Ministry of Transport.

ARTMA stressed that compliance with this requirement is compulsory for all affected riders.The agency also made the use of crash helmets mandatory, emphasizing that every riders must wear protective headgear while on the road.

“The measure is aimed at reducing the risk of serious injuries and fatalities in the event of road crashes”, the notice said.

ARTMA urged electric bike operators to comply fully with the new safety guidelines, warning that adherence to traffic regulations remained essential for protecting lives and maintaining order on the state’s highways.

Reaffirming its commitment to safer roads, the agency encouraged all road users to obey traffic rules, noting that responsible riding and strict compliance with safety measures are keys to preventing accidents and saving lives.

The notice concluded with the message: “Obey Traffic Rules. Save Lives”.
