The National Chairman of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Barr Sly Ezeokenwa, has set a target of 500-1000 registered members in each ward of Onitsha South Local Government Area, Anambra State, within the next 72 hours.

This follows a recent statistics showing a low turnout of registered members in the area.

Ezeokenwa, who is also from Onitsha South, attributed the low numbers to manual registrations which is yet to be uploaded to the system. He has directed the training of personnel to ensure a smooth and hitch-free registration process.

Speaking during the training, Ezeokenwa, represented by the former Caretaker Committee Chairman in the area, Hon. Emeka Asoanya emphasized the importance of uploading already registered members into the system

He described the exercise as a 24/7 work, charged the personnel to work round the clock to ensure the target was met, assuring them of their welfare after the exercise.

He commended the party stakeholders in the area who have contributed to the success of the training.

The Local Government Secretary, Barr. Paul Onuachalla, explained that Onitsha South’s low turnout was due to its commercial nature, with residents focused on business. He urged people to register, saying, “The next primary election is dependent on the number of registered party members.”

The Party Chairman of the area, Chief Uche Umeh, noted that Onitsha South is not lagging behind, citing plans for a free working day on weekends for registration. The party aims to sensitize people and increase registration numbers.

The exercise has attracted notable attendees, including former House of Assembly Member, Hon. Uzoma Eli, former Counsellor Fegge ward III, Hon. Tochukwu Umeobiaeri, Wards Councillors, and Wards Chairmen.
