As emerging technologies continue to reshape education, agriculture, industry and everyday life, the Anambra State Government has reiterated its commitment to equipping young people with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in a rapidly changing world.

The Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ekene Ogugua, said this during the 5th International Multi Disciplinary Academic Conference of Anambra State Polytechnic, Mgbakwu (ANSPOLY), held on Sept. 23 at the institution’s multipurpose hall.

The conference, themed “Harnessing Emerging Technology for Sustainable Economic Transformation: Shaping the Future of Education, Industry and Society,” brought together academics, researchers, policymakers and other stakeholders to examine how technology can drive education and economic development.

Represented by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Dr. Christian Eleojo Chukwuemeka, the Commissioner said the conference theme aligned with the administration’s development agenda and its focus on strengthening education as a foundation for human capital development.

He said the government had continued to invest in the education sector while promoting collaboration with tertiary institutions to advance academic excellence, research and innovation.

Chukwuemeka assured the Polytechnic that the ministry remained attentive to its needs, adding that efforts were ongoing to identify areas requiring intervention and enhance the institution’s academic environment.

He commended the management of ANSPOLY for convening the conference, describing it as an important platform for scholars, researchers and professionals to exchange ideas and develop practical responses to emerging societal challenges.

The Rector of ANSPOLY, Dr. Njideka Rita Chiekezie, said the conference provided an opportunity to explore the transformative potential of emerging technologies, particularly Artificial Intelligence, and their implications for sustainable development.

Among the academic presentations was a paper by Prof. Osita Igwebuike Chiaghanam on emerging technology and sustainable economic transformation, while Prof. Chukwuka Ikechukwu Nwoye examined robotics-driven agricultural transformation and its application to crop production and livestock development.

The conference also featured the Mayor of Aguata, Dr. Chibueze Ofobuike, as a keynote presenter.

Awards were presented to Dr. Ofobuike and traditional rulers, including Igwe Chukwuemeka Ilouno and Igwe Godwin Ogo Ezeilo, in recognition of their contributions.

The conference underscored the growing importance of technology, research and innovation in preparing students and communities for emerging opportunities and supporting sustainable economic transformation.
