The Anambra State AIDS Control Agency (ANSACA) has commenced preparations for its 2026 World AIDS Week activities while reviewing its August performance as part of efforts to strengthen HIV prevention, testing, awareness and support services across the state.
The agency made this known during its Monthly Review Meeting (MRM) held on Sept. 1, where heads of units presented reports on activities carried out in August, highlighting achievements, challenges, programme gaps and measures adopted to address them.
The meeting provided an opportunity to assess progress across various programmes and set priorities for September, with emphasis on improving implementation, strengthening coordination and addressing identified gaps.

ANSACA appreciated the Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, for his continued support for the agency, noting that the administration’s backing has contributed to an enabling environment for ANSACA to expand its HIV response and become more active and visible in prevention, testing, awareness and community engagement across the state.
As part of preparations for World AIDS Week, ANSACA will organise a series of activities leading up to World AIDS Day on December 1, under the theme, “Rethink, Rebuild and Rise.”

Planned activities include a press conference, HIV science symposium and research engagement, football tournament, advocacy walk, road shows and high-level advocacy visits to key stakeholders.
To ensure effective coordination, various committees were constituted to oversee the planning and implementation of the activities.
The meeting reaffirmed ANSACA’s commitment to accountability, continuous improvement and stronger partnerships in advancing the state’s HIV response and ensuring that more people have access to accurate information, prevention services, testing and appropriate care.
