The Executive Director/Project Manager of the Anambra State AIDS Control Agency (ANSACA), Dr. Nkem Okeke, will lead discussions on substance abuse and youth health as keynote speaker at the ANUFEST 2026 Drug Abuse Campaign and Seminar scheduled for Nov. 14.
Dr. Okeke is expected to draw on his experience as a public health physician and researcher to educate young people on the health risks associated with drug abuse, particularly the growing use of hookah and electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes).
The event, organised in collaboration with the Young Pharmacists Group, Anambra State, and the Nigerian Association of Clinical Psychologists, Anambra State Chapter, will take place at Agulu Lake Resorts Hotel, Anambra State, by 10:00 a.m.

With the theme, “Your Future, Your Choice: Say No to Drugs and Social Vices,” the campaign seeks to raise awareness about substance abuse, address misconceptions surrounding harmful substances, encouraging young people to make informed decisions that protect their health and future.
Dr. Okeke’s participation is particularly significant given his research on “Knowledge and Risk Perception of Hookah and E-Cigarettes Among Youths in Anambra State.” The study, which has been published in international journals and magazines, is described as the first of its kind in Southeast Nigeria and the second in the country.
His presentation is expected to highlight findings from the research, drawing attention to the dangers of hookah and e-cigarette use, especially among young people who may wrongly perceive these products as safer alternatives to conventional tobacco or other harmful substances.
He will also emphasise the importance of preventive education, early intervention and community participation in addressing substance abuse, noting the need for collective efforts to safeguard young people’s health and wellbeing.
The seminar will bring together pharmacists, clinical psychologists, health professionals, young people and other stakeholders to discuss practical approaches to tackling drug abuse and related social vices.
The programme is organised in partnership with the Anambra State Ministry of Culture, Entertainment and Tourism, with Agulu Lake Resorts Hotel as sponsor.
Members of the public, particularly young people, are encouraged to participate in the campaign and take advantage of the opportunity to learn about the health consequences of substance abuse and the importance of making responsible lifestyle choices.
