The Mayor of Anambra West Local Government Area(LGA), Hon. Mrs. Edith Nkeiru Ndive, has signed the Anambra West Local Government Internal Generated Revenue (IGR) Enhancement By-Law into law, a move aimed at strengthening the LGA’s financial base and accelerating grassroots development.
The signing ceremony, held on July 7 at the Local Government Secretariat in Nzam, marks a major step towards boosting internally generated revenue, reducing dependence on federal allocations, promoting transparency and accountability in revenue collection.
Speaking shortly after signing the bill, Hon. Ndive described the legislation as timely and strategic, expressing confidence that it would enhance the LGA’s revenue generation capacity and translate into improved infrastructure, better public services and greater economic opportunities for residents.
She reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to ensuring that the new revenue framework delivers visible development projects and improved welfare across the local government.
The Speaker of the Anambra West Congress of Councillors, Rt. Hon. Sunday Anago, described the by-law as a forward-looking initiative that would strengthen local governance, improve revenue generation and fast-track grassroots development.
Also speaking, the sponsor of the bill, Rt. Hon. Vincent Ojiadi Nnamdi, said the legislation provides a stronger revenue framework that will enable the LGA to finance key government programmes and deliver greater dividends of democracy to the people.
The passage and signing of the by-law underscore the shared commitment of the executive and legislative arms of the local government to building a financially sustainable, accountable and prosperous Anambra West.
