Anambra has recorded another achievement in education as Mr. Ifetike Chekwube Hope, a technical teacher at Government Technical College, Onitsha, emerged as the Overall Best ICT Driven Teacher in Africa 2026.
Ifetike received the award at the African Teachers Excellence Award (ATEA) Gala Night, held as part of the African Teachers Festival 2026 at the UBEC Digital Centre, Abuja, on Aug. 21.
The award recognises his commitment to innovative teaching and effective use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to enhance learning and classroom engagement.
Expressing gratitude for the recognition, Ifetike described the award as a significant milestone in his teaching career.
“I have the honour to appreciate the Almighty God for making it possible for me to be the first ever winner of the prestigious Overall Best Most Outstanding ICT Driven Educator in Africa.
“The sky is our starting point. To God be the glory,” he said.
The continental recognition adds to Ifetike’s growing record of achievements in the teaching profession.
In January 2026, he was named the Overall Best Performing Teacher in the South-East at the National Teachers Summit.
His successive recognitions underscore his commitment to innovative teaching and the effective application of digital tools to improve learning outcomes.
As a technical teacher, Ifetike’s achievement also highlights the potential of vocational and technical education to produce educators who combine practical knowledge, digital skills and innovative teaching approaches.
The recognition further underscores the importance of continuous professional development and equipping teachers with relevant digital competencies to prepare learners for an increasingly technology driven world.
The achievement is expected to inspire more teachers across Anambra to embrace technology, continuous learning and innovative teaching methods, while further reinforcing the state’s reputation for excellence in education.
