Anambra State Government has approved the sum of N500 million for the acquisition of major medical equipment and the funding of accreditation for critical departments at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH), Amaku-Awka.
This was disclosed by the Chief Medical Director (CMD), Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku, Dr. Maureen Umeakuewulu, on July 8, while she defended the hospital’s 2025 financial year before the Public Accounts Committee of the Anambra State House of Assembly.
While speaking to the committee, she commended the state government for its support and commitment to repositioning the institution for the effective and efficient operation of the teaching hospital.
“The hospital have commenced innovations and rejuvenation efforts aimed at transforming it into a centre of excellence capable of providing quality healthcare services not only to the people of Anambra State but also to neighbouring states,” she said.
The CMD assured the lawmakers that the hospital management would implement the 2026 budget strictly in line with the approvals granted, while addressing the observations and corrections raised during the review of the 2025 financial year.
“Some departments of the hospital required immediate accreditation and funds have been approved to facilitate the process. The management is working round the clock to ensure that the hospital gained national and international recognition”.
She thanked Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his support and appealed for continued collaboration as the hospital works towards achieving its vision of becoming a globally recognized centre of excellence.
