The Anambra State Government has strongly condemned the increasing vandalism of public infrastructure by individuals posing as scrap metal dealers, popularly known as “iron condemn” operators.

The Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Clem Aguiyi, said the criminal activities of cutting down electricity poles, stealing power cables and damaging other government installations are unacceptable and will no longer be tolerated.

Dr. Aguiyi announced that the state government has deployed a Special Task Force on Vandalization to identify, arrest and prosecute anyone involved in the destruction of public property.

He called on residents of the state to support government efforts by remaining vigilant and reporting any suspicious activity to security agencies or the Special Task Force on Vandalization through 0806 163 4611.

The Commissioner stressed that public infrastructure belongs to all citizens and must be protected for the benefit of present and future generations.

He warned that anyone found vandalising government property would face the full weight of the law, stressing that offenders cannot escape justice.
