ANAMBRA SEEKS INTERNATIONAL INTERVENTIONS AGAINST IMPENDING FLOOD DISASTER

The Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has continued to call on international bodies to assist the state in combating the ravaging flood menace and in bringing permanent solution to the disaster.
Governor Soludo made the call while receiving a team from United Nations Office for Project Services in partnership with the Japanese government on a charity mission to the state.
Speaking at the State Government House Awka, Governor Soludo represented by his Deputy, Dr. OnyekaChukwu Ibezim highlighted on the various preventive and responsive measures that have been established in order to mitigate the impact of flooding in the state.
The governor also said that his administration with the support of the federal government is making effort toward construction of dams, dredging of major rivers and drainages across the state.
Earlier, the leader of the team, Megumi Otsu noted that the organization in support to Anambra State Government will install a free detective device in major rivers in the state, such as River Niger to help monitor the water level to ensure timely detection of flood outbreak.
She said that part of their mission is to provide the state with vehicle, computer sets and other gadgets which will be linked to the state Ministry of Environment, flood prone communities and local government areas for easy tracking of the water levels.
