In a blend of worship, reflection and recognition, the Anambra State Police Command on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, hosted its first-ever Carol of Nine Lessons.

The event held at Vertex View Hotel, Nibo, Awka South LGA, brought together senior police officers, rank and file personnel, clergymen, government officials, journalists and members of the public in an atmosphere marked by gratitude and renewed commitment to service.

Addressing the gathering, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, described the Carol of Nine Lessons as more than a seasonal celebration, noting that it provided an opportunity for spiritual reflection for officers who risk their lives daily in the line of duty. He emphasized that Christmas season calls for self-examination, compassion and a recommitment to professionalism, discipline and respect for human rights.

According to him, police officers must continue to uphold the core values of the Nigeria Police Force while strengthening partnerships with communities to sustain peace and security across Anambra State.

“The lessons of Christmas remind us of sacrifice, humility and service to humanity. These virtues must reflect in our conduct, our interactions with the public and our resolve to protect lives and property without fear or favour,” CP Orutugu said.

A major highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of awards to outstanding police officers drawn from various departments and divisions of the Command. The Commissioner of Police commended the award recipients for their dedication, integrity and exceptional performance, explaining that the recognition was aimed at encouraging excellence and healthy competition within the Force.

Notably, the Commander, Special Anti-Cult Squad, Enugu-Ukwu, CSP Ayuba Ahmadu, was recognized by the Command as the Best Crime Fighter of the Year. He also received wider recognition at the national level by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) for his exceptional contributions to crime control in the student environment.

Also recognized was Hon Ken Emeakayi, the Commander of the Agụnachmba Vigilante Group, for outstanding collaboration and support in maintaining security across the state.
Hon. Ikenna Ofodeme the majority leader of Anambra State House of Assembly was honoured as the Best Supportive Stakeholder, while Hon. Ambrose Obinna Onuzulike received an award for selfless service and consistent support to the Police.

Furthermore, the Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, was recognized by the Senate Arm of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) as the Best Student Friendly Police Public Relations Officer, in appreciation of his professionalism and effective police–public engagement.

The Carol of Nine Lessons featured Bible readings, choral renditions by police band and guest choir group, as well as prayers for peace, unity and security in Anambra State and Nigeria. Special prayers were also offered for the Inspector-General of Police, officers of the Force, and the government and people of the state.

Award recipients expressed appreciation to the Police Command, pledging continued dedication to duty, while community awardees reaffirmed their readiness to support the police through cooperation and timely information sharing.

The event ended on a joyful note, with goodwill messages and a call for a peaceful Christmas and New Year celebration across Anambra State.
