Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command’s State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) have concluded investigations into a series of grave sexual and child abuse cases, including an incestuous relationship that allegedly resulted in a serious viral infection. The five suspects are scheduled to be arraigned today, 6 May 2026, before a Special Court in Awka.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Gender Unit received a defilement report on 22 April 2026 from Ogbunike Police Division involving a 16-year-old girl. The suspect, 26-year-old Chukwuemeka Chidiebere, a security guard at a local estate, allegedly forced the minor into an uncompleted building and raped her while she was on her way to a friend’s house. He has reportedly confessed to the crime.
In a separate case reported on 23 April 2026 from Neni Police Division, 36-year-old Uchenna Muojama is accused of luring an 11-year-old girl into his barbing salon and sexually assaulting her. Police said a medical report has been obtained to support the prosecution.
Another matter, transferred from Awka Central Police Station on 21 April 2025, involves 52-year-old Chukwudi Nwayata, who allegedly took advantage of an 11-year-old girl’s mental vulnerability to lure her to his home and rape her.
Also on 23 April 2026, Oko Police Station reported an incest case in which 46-year-old Rapuluchukwu Ezenandu allegedly engaged in a sexual relationship with his 20-year-old daughter since she was 17. The abuse came to light after the victim tested positive for HIV during a hospital visit. The suspect has admitted to the offence.
In the final case, reported on 28 April 2026, Eucharia Ezenwanne is accused of physically assaulting her adopted children — 6-year-old Echetuna Ezenwanne and 4-year-old Chikaima Ezenwanne — with a wire. She claimed to have adopted the children from a motherless babies’ home in Onitsha.
Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, described the crimes as “heinous and unacceptable,” reiterating the command’s commitment to protecting vulnerable persons, particularly children, and ensuring prompt prosecution.
