The Commissioner of Police for Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has emphasized that effective policing is a shared responsibility between the Police and the public.
Represented by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, the Commissioner spoke at a roundtable themed “The Nigerian Police and the Challenges of Policing at the Sub-National Level: Is State Police a Viable Option?” held at the IPBS Boardroom, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.
The event, organized by the Institute for Peace, Security and Development Studies alongside the Society for Peace Studies and Practice (SPSP), gathered distinguished attendees including Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Chiobi (Rtd), Special Adviser on Security to the Anambra Governor, His Royal Highness Igwe P.O. Omachonu, Prof Amaka Joe-Iguh, academics, civil society actors, and media representatives. The discussion centered on improving policing approaches at the sub-national level.
CP Orutugu highlighted that building effective policing relies heavily on trust, collaboration, and active participation from the community, affirming that “Anambra can only achieve lasting peace and security through a unified commitment”.
He called on residents to demonstrate greater concern and willingness to collaborate with the Police for better security service delivery.The Anambra State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to deepening community-police partnerships and strengthening the state’s security framework.
