The Anambra State Ministry of Women and Social Welfare has on July 17 announced the revival of its flagship Skills Acquisition Programme aimed at equipping young women and men with practical, marketable skills that promote self-reliance, entrepreneurship, and economic empowerment.
The Ministry disclosed that registration for the first phase of the programme, which commenced on July 13, is currently open to eligible residents of Awka and its environs and will close on July 27. It added that subsequent phases of the initiative would be extended to other parts of the state.
According to the ministry, the six-month intensive training programme is in line with the vision of the Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, to promote youth empowerment, reduce unemployment, alleviate poverty, and foster sustainable economic development.
Participants will receive practical, hands-on training from experienced instructors in various vocational fields, enabling them to acquire employable skills that can be readily transformed into sustainable sources of income.
The training will cover Catering and Confectionery, Computer Education, Hairdressing, Cosmetology, Tailoring and Fashion Design, and Textile Crafts.
The programme is open to young people aged 18 years and above. Interested applicants are required to obtain and complete the registration forms at the Ministry of Women and Social Welfare, Awka, within the registration period. A token fee will be charged for the registration form, while available spaces are limited.
The ministry urged interested applicants to take advantage of the opportunity by completing their registration before the deadline. For further enquiries, prospective participants may contact 07030217879 or 07068580385.
It also called on community leaders, religious organisations, youth groups, and other stakeholders to mobilise eligible young people to participate in the programme, describing the initiative as a strategic investment in human capital development and the socio-economic prosperity of Anambra State.
