In a continued effort to strengthen healthcare delivery across Anambra State, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike has reaasured of the state government’s resolve to building a health system that ensures even the poorest citizens have access to affordable medical care.
The commissioner made this declaration during a routine inspection visit to Enugwu-Ukwu General Hospital as part of his routine hospital monitoring and evaluation exercise.
“What we are building in health is a system where the poorest of the poor will have access to affordable healthcare services,” the commissioner said while addressing staff and patients at the facility.
He emphasized that the current administration, under the leadership of Governor Chukwuma Soludo is committed to health equity, adding that no citizen should be denied essential healthcare because of financial hardship.
During the visit, Dr. Obidike inspected Wards, Laboratory, Pharmacy units, and the Outpatient department.
He engaged with healthcare workers, inquired about their challenges, and commended them for their services under, sometimes difficult conditions.
“We understand the pressures our frontline health workers face, which is why the government is investing in upgrading facilities, increasing staff strength, and providing necessary equipment across all levels of care,” he added.
“The Enugwu-Ukwu General Hospital is one of the several facilities that has been upgraded and equipped.”
He said that the Gov. Soludo’s administration has successfully built five new general hospitals paying emphasis to locate them at the local government that doesn’t have one hitherto.
Patients at the hospital expressed appreciation for the visit, describing it as a sign of renewed attention and hope for better healthcare outcomes in the near future.
The commissioner also assured that the government has solidified the State Healthcare Insurance Scheme which will help reduce out-of-pocket expenses for low-income households earners.
