The Anambra State Government has reiterated its commitment to sports development through sustained investment in infrastructure and collaboration with sports associations across the state.
The Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Mr. Patrick Agha Mba, gave the assurance when the newly elected executives of Tennis City Sports Club paid him a courtesy visit at the ministry’s headquarters in Awka on July 30.
Agha Mba said the government would continue to support initiatives that provided young people with opportunities to discover, develop and showcase their sporting talents.
He described sports as an important tool for youth empowerment, talent development and economic growth, stressing the need for stronger collaboration between government and relevant stakeholders.
The visit also provided an opportunity for the club to formally introduce its new executive members and discuss areas of partnership with the ministry.
In recognition of his support for sports development, the club conferred on Agha Mba the position of Patron.
The executives said Tennis City Sports Club, established in 1948, had made significant contributions to the development of tennis and had continued to promote the sport over the years.
They outlined plans to further expand the game through improved facilities, grassroots participation, talent development and strategic partnerships.
Responding, Agha Mba commended the club for its longstanding contributions to sports development and commitment to nurturing young talents.
He said the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo was investing in sports infrastructure as part of efforts to reposition the sector, citing the ongoing construction of the new Ekwulobia Stadium.
The commissioner assured the club of the ministry’s readiness to collaborate with sports stakeholders to promote tennis and other sporting activities across the state.
