ANAMBRA GOVERNOR’S WIFE PLEDGES SUPPORT FOR JOURNALISTS, CALLS FOR BALANCED REPORTAGE
By Ukpa Ewa :
The Wife of Anambra State Governor, Dr. Nonye Soludo, has reaffirmed her commitment to working closely with journalists in the state, emphasizing their crucial role in disseminating accurate information. She made this known while receiving the newly elected executive of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Anambra State Council at Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia led by its Chairman, Comrade Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, PhD.

Dr. Soludo, who appreciated the award given to her last year as the most supportive Governor’s wife in the South East, urged journalists to remain professional, especially as the state gears up for the next election cycle, noting that while negative reports are common during election periods, journalists should focus on highlighting the achievements of the Soludo administration.

“It is election year and a lot of negative reports will be put out. But journalists should push the message out for people to know what is being done in the state. The first four years have been challenging but if God says my husband will go back, there will be a difference, and Anambra will be where it is supposed to be,” she said.
Earlier, the NUJ Chairman, Comrade Odogwu had informed Dr. Soludo of his recent election and assured her of the union willingness to foster a strong relationship with her and Governor Chukwuma Soludo. He commended her for her health and environmental initiatives, particularly her six-pillar healthy living program, which includes nutritious pap, pad bank, anti-shock garments and free pad distribution.

He also praised her efforts in promoting environmental cleanliness in markets, encouraging backyard farming, and distributing free seedlings to households, noting that these initiatives promote unadulterated food consumption.
“NUJ is at your service, and we hope to be given access to the Governor. We also use this opportunity to inform you about the 2025 NUJ Man of the Year event slated for August 2025,” Odogwu said.

In his vote of thanks, the former Vice President of Nigerian Guild of Editors, Sir Victor Agusiobo, lauded Dr. Soludo for her contributions to society, particularly in the health sector. He described her as a woman of strength who has remained true to herself.
“Health is an important topic, especially within the political space. You have shown great commitment to it and history will be kind to you,” he said.
The meeting ended on a note of mutual commitment to collaboration between the government and the media in advancing the development of Anambra State.
