The Mayor of Anambra East Local Government Area(LGA), Hon. Sir Ifeanyi Chinweze, has donated environmental maintenance equipment and chemicals to the Chinua Achebe International Cargo Airport, Umueri, to strengthen efforts towards keeping the facility clean, safe and attractive.
The items, presented on Oct. 27, include knapsack sprayers, a lawn mower and chemicals for grass control.
The intervention is aimed at supporting the airport management in maintaining a neat and orderly environment befitting the facility’s status as an important gateway into Anambra State.
Presenting the items, Chinweze said the gesture reflected his administration’s commitment to environmental cleanliness and a sustainable maintenance culture across public facilities in Anambra East.
He noted that a clean airport environment was essential not only for safety and operational efficiency but also for projecting a positive image of the state to visitors and other users of the facility.
The mayor urged the airport management and staff to ensure the proper use of the equipment and make regular maintenance a shared responsibility.
“We must continue to keep our public facilities clean and presentable. This airport is the face of Anambra to many visitors, and its environment must reflect the Solution Agenda of Mr. Governor,” he said.
Responding, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the airport, Mr. Martin Emeka, thanked the mayor for the support, describing the donation as a demonstration of responsive leadership and commitment to the upkeep of public infrastructure.
Emeka commended Chinweze for his contributions to development initiatives covering environmental management, infrastructure and community welfare in Anambra East.
He assured that the donated items would be put to effective use to improve the airport’s environmental maintenance.
The intervention underscores the importance of collaboration between local government authorities and state institutions in promoting environmental sustainability, preserving public infrastructure and enhancing the appearance of public facilities across Anambra State.
