ANAMBRA CP VISITS, COMMISERATES WITH ONITSHA PLUMBING MARKET FIRE VICTIMS

The Commissioner of Police, CP, Anambra State Command, Ikioye Orutugu, has visited and commiserated with victims of the fire incident that occurred at the Plumbing Market, Onitsha Bridgehead, urging them to take heart while also assessing the extent of damaged at the scene.

Orutugu expressed deep sympathy to those affected by the unfortunate incident and assured them of the Command’s support, particularly in ensuring the security of lives and property in the area to prevent further losses or exploitation by criminal elements.

The CP, while assessing the scene, noted that preliminary information suggested the fire may have been caused by heat generated from the storage of inflammable materials, particularly pipes, and possible non-adherence to fire safety regulations.

As investigations into the incident continue, the Commissioner of Police commended the swift response of emergency responders, including the Fire Service and other relevant agencies, whose timely intervention helped to contain the situation and prevented further escalation.

The CP who noted that no life was lost in the incident, was accompanied on the visit by the Divisional Police Officer, Headbridge Division, CSP Onyinnaya Uche, alongside other relevant stakeholders in the market.

In a release by the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Tochukwu Ikenga, (SP), the Command urged traders and residents to adhere strictly to safety guidelines, especially in the storage and handling of inflammable materials, to avert future occurrences.
