ANAMBRA ATTORNEY GENERAL INSPECTS MULTI-DOOR COURTHOUSE, REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO JUSTICE REFORM

The Anambra State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Tobechukwu Nweke, on August 4, paid an inspection visit to the Anambra State Multi-Door Courthouse (AnMDC), located within the Judiciary Headquarters, Awka.
The AnMDC was originally inaugurated on February 5, 2019, by the Chief Judge Emeritus, Hon. Justice Peter Umeadi. However, despite its inauguration, the facility was unable to commence full operations at the time due to operational challenges.
Speaking during the visit, the Director of the AnMDC, Hon. Chineze Obianyo, disclosed that the centre was re-established on August 19, 2025, and has since become fully operational. She explained that the courthouse offers alternative dispute resolution services through walk-in requests, court referrals, and strategic collaborations with key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Justice.
Hon. Obianyo noted that the AnMDC plays a vital role in the criminal justice system through its Restorative Justice Mechanism, which is designed to handle eligible cases where defendants have admitted guilt and are willing to make restitution or reconcile with affected parties.
According to her, the effective operation of the Multi-Door Courthouse will not only accelerate the resolution of disputes but also help decongest conventional courts and reduce the population of correctional centres by facilitating the timely settlement of qualifying cases.
She expressed confidence that sustained support and collaboration from relevant stakeholders would further strengthen the AnMDC’s capacity to enhance access to justice and significantly reduce the backlog of cases across Anambra State’s justice system.
