The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze, has called for collective action to empower women, defend their rights, and protect their dignity.
In a powerful tribute to Nigerian women on International Women’s Day, Udeze highlighted their outstanding contributions to nation-building, particularly in the health sector where they dominate the workforce.
“Women are the backbone of our nation. Investing in them is investing in a brighter future for all.”
He urged authorities to abolish laws and practices that harm women, especially widows, and commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo and his wife, Mrs. Nonye Soludo, for empowering Anambra women through initiatives like free antenatal care and women’s rights advocacy.
Udeze also appealed to affluent citizens to support vulnerable women, emphasizing the critical role women play in families and national growth. “Let’s join hands to create a more peaceful, prosperous society for generations to come”.
