ANAMBRA ASSEMBLY PASSES BILLS TO BOOST RURAL ECONOMY

By Chizoba Okeke

The Anambra State House of Assembly has taken a significant step to drive economic growth and strengthen rural infrastructure with the passage of two strategic road-related bills.

The Anambra State Rural Access Roads Development Agency (ASRARA) Bill 2025 and the Anambra State Roads Fund Board (ASRFB) Bill 2025 were passed after rigorous clause-by-clause consideration at the Committee of the Whole.

The ASRARA Bill establishes a specialized agency to construct, rehabilitate, and maintain Class C and Class D roads, focusing on opening up hinterland communities and improving access to agricultural markets.

The ASRFB Bill institutionalizes a dedicated Roads Fund, ensuring sustainable, transparent, and consistent financing for rural road infrastructure maintenance across the state.

The passage of these bills is expected to boost economic activities, enhance connectivity, and improve the quality of life for rural dwellers.
