The Anambra State House of Assembly has extended the suspension of the lawmaker representing Ayamelum Constituency, Hon. Bernard Udemezue, for an additional three months without pay, citing persistent non-compliance with House rules and continued engagement in unparliamentary conduct.

The decision, reached during Tuesday’s plenary, followed the adoption of recommendations submitted by the House Committee on Rules, Business, Ethics, and Privileges.

According to the report, Hon. Udemezue failed to comply with earlier directives requiring him to tender a written apology to the Speaker and members of the 8th Assembly, as well as publish the same apology on his social media platforms within five days, effective from 26th November 2025. He was also instructed to stay away from the Assembly complex throughout the duration of his initial suspension.

The committee report revealed that despite these clear directives, the lawmaker neither issued any form of apology nor demonstrated remorse. Instead, findings showed he continued to make derogatory posts about the Assembly on his Facebook page, in defiance of the resolution adopted on 28th August 2025.

Chairman of the committee and Majority Leader, Sir Ikenna Ofodeme, informed the House that Hon. Udemezue further violated the suspension order by appearing at the legislative chamber on Tuesday, November 25, allegedly attempting to disrupt proceedings.

With the adoption of the committee’s recommendations, the Assembly ordered that Hon. Udemezue remain suspended for an additional three months, during which he is barred from accessing the Assembly premises.

The House reaffirmed its commitment to upholding discipline, decorum, and strict adherence to parliamentary ethics within the legislature.
