The Anambra State House of Assembly has confirmed the appointment of five members to the Anambra State Electricity Regulatory Commission, marking another major step in Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s ongoing reforms in the state’s power sector.
The confirmation followed a formal request from Governor Soludo to the legislature for the screening and approval of his nominees.
Those confirmed include Prof. Frank Okafor as Chairman and Chief Executive Commissioner, alongside Engr. Geoffrey Nwokoye, Dr. Nnaemeka Ewelukwa, Engr. Nosike Emmanuel, and Barr. Chijioke Obi as Commissioners.
In his remarks after the confirmation, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze, congratulated the appointees and charged them to uphold integrity, diligence, and transparency in the discharge of their duties. He noted that the Commission’s role is crucial in regulating electricity supply, promoting fair practices, and ensuring efficient service delivery across Anambra State.
He described the establishment of the Commission as a milestone in the state’s efforts to strengthen electricity governance and improve access to reliable power.
Responding on behalf of the appointees, Prof. Frank Okafor expressed gratitude to Governor Soludo and the State Assembly for the confidence reposed in them. He pledged that the Commission would work assiduously to ensure effective regulation and improved electricity supply for the benefit of Ndi Anambra.
