The Anambra State Commissioner for Power and Water Resources, Engr. Casmir Chinenye Agummadu, has reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to disaster preparedness and resilience through active participation in a one day sensitization and capacity building programme on disaster preparedness and risk reduction strategies organized by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in Awka.
The June 5th programme which took place at the Deputy Governor’s office, light house Awka, brought together government officials, security agencies, emergency management stakeholders and development partners to strengthen collaboration and enhance preparedness for anticipated flooding and other climate-related disasters across the state.
The sensitization exercise focused on improving emergency response mechanisms, strengthening institutional capacity and promoting coordinated action among relevant agencies to protect lives, property and critical infrastructure.

Speaking on the significance of the programme, Engr. Agummadu emphasized the need for proactive planning, effective coordination and inter-agency collaboration in mitigating the impact of natural disasters, particularly flooding, which continues to pose significant challenges in many communities.
He noted that the Ministry of Power and Water Resources remains committed to supporting initiatives that enhance disaster preparedness, safeguard critical infrastructure and ensure the uninterrupted delivery of essential services during emergencies.
According to the Commissioner, building resilience against disasters requires collective efforts and sustained investment in preventive measures, public awareness and effective response systems.
The event also provided a platform for stakeholders to exchange ideas, strengthen partnerships and develop practical strategies aimed at reducing disaster risks and improving resilience to climate related challenges.
The participation of the ministry underscores the commitment of the Anambra State Government to effective disaster management, environmental sustainability and the protection of lives and property across the state.
Participants at the programme reaffirmed their resolve to work collaboratively towards building safer, more resilient and disaster ready communities in Anambra State.
