The Anambra State Town Unions Council (ASTUC), Youth Wing, has honoured philanthropist Chief John Agulue and four others for their contributions to youth empowerment and community development.
Agulue received the title of “Patron and Role Model to Anambra Youth Worldwide” alongside four other award recipients from Awkuzu, Nkwelle Ezunaka, Nteje and Ogbunike communities.
The award ceremony, held at the Oyi Local Government Area Secretariat, Nteje, attracted stakeholders from Agulue’s community, Umunya, who highlighted his philanthropic activities, including the construction of St. Theresa’s High School and sponsorship of free medical missions.
Chairman of the occasion, Hon. Ifeanyi Anachunam, urged youths to emulate the award recipients by embracing hard work, good character and dignity of labour.
Anachunam, who was represented by Mr. Peter Onuigbo, urged the recipients to sustain their contributions to good governance and community development.
He said their service could inspire young people to make positive contributions to their communities.
The ASTUC Youth President, Comrade Ken Okoli, described the recipients as individuals who exemplified shared community values and could serve as role models for young people across the state.
Okoli said communities in Anambra were expected to nominate role models annually through a structured selection process designed to promote leadership, integrity and community service.
He urged youths in Oyi to cultivate discipline and a sense of responsibility as essential qualities for personal development and community progress.
In his response, Agulue described the award as meaningful, particularly because it came from young people within the state.
The Umunya born philanthropist, who was represented by Mr. Damian Egwuonwu, pledged to support initiatives aimed at expanding youth empowerment opportunities in Anambra and beyond.
