The Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Fasugba Temitope, has commended officers and personnel of the Central Police Station (CPS), Onitsha, for their commitment, professionalism, and resilience in combating crime, while emphasizing the need for stronger collaboration between security agencies and the public to enhance safety and security across the commercial city.
ACP Fasugba made the call during an official visit to CPS Onitsha, where he was received by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP Nnamdi Anabike, senior police officers, and members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), led by its Chairman, Mr. Chigbo Ogudebe.

In his welcome address, CSP Anabike expressed appreciation for the ACP’s leadership, strategic direction, and continuous professional engagements since assuming office. He described the visit as a demonstration of the command’s commitment to strengthening operational effectiveness and improving security within Onitsha and its surrounding communities.
The DPO highlighted several achievements recorded by the division in recent months, particularly in addressing cases of tricycle (keke) robbery, kidnapping, and other violent crimes. Despite these successes, he noted that the division continues to face significant operational challenges, including inadequate manpower and limited logistics support.

According to him, CPS Onitsha, which serves one of the most densely populated and commercially active areas in Anambra State, currently operates with only one functional operational vehicle to cover its extensive security responsibilities.
Speaking on behalf of the community, the Chairman of the PCRC, Mr. Chigbo Ogudebe, commended ACP Fasugba for his dedication to effective policing and community engagement. He reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to supporting the police, stressing that maintaining security requires collective responsibility and active participation from all stakeholders.
In his remarks, ACP Fasugba praised the officers and men of the division for their sacrifices and dedication in the discharge of their duties. He stressed that sustainable security can only be achieved through a robust partnership between law enforcement agencies and members of the public.

The ACP urged residents to remain vigilant and provide timely, accurate, and actionable information to security agencies, noting that community intelligence remains one of the most effective tools in combating criminal activities.
He also expressed concern over the low participation of youths from the South-East in the recent police recruitment exercise, describing the trend as worrisome. He encouraged qualified young people across the region to take advantage of future recruitment opportunities, emphasizing that increased representation would strengthen policing efforts and contribute to national security.
ACP Fasugba reiterated the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to proactive policing, enhanced community relations, and the sustained pursuit of individuals and groups threatening public peace and security.
The visit underscored the command’s ongoing efforts to improve operational efficiency, deepen community engagement, and consolidate gains in the fight against crime, with the ultimate objective of ensuring a safer environment for residents, businesses, and visitors in Onitsha and neighbouring communities.
