The Traditional Ruler of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, has inaugurated a new Executive Committee of the Onitsha Improvement Union (OIU), charging members to prioritise unity and development in the community.
The inauguration, held on April 10 at Imeobi Onitsha, brought together chiefs, stakeholders, and indigenes, marking a new phase for the Union.
In his address, Igwe Achebe emphasized the importance of the OIU in driving development and maintaining unity within the Onitsha community and the need for collective commitment, urging the new leadership to act in the interest of the people.

“Let them have love for Onitsha, which will lead to progress. They have promised to carry out their duties excellently, and I will support them in whatever they do so they can lead Onitsha well,” he said.
The newly inaugurated President-General, Ezennia Engr. I.K. Iwenofu, described his emergence as both a privilege and an opportunity to serve, pledging to deploy his experience toward advancing the Union’s objectives.

He assured members that the executive would work collaboratively to deliver meaningful results for the community.
“I see this as an opportunity to do great work for Onitsha, and we will apply our efforts and experience to achieve that,” he said.
Other executive committee includes; Ozomma Chuma Chude as 1st Vice President-General; Ik Amene, 2nd Vice President-General; Melvin Mkpuluma, Secretary General; Chuma Okwuosa, Financial Secretary; Alex Egbuniwe, Assistant Financial Adviser; Chike Okechukwu, Provost; Barr. Uche Anyaegbuna, Legal Adviser; and Ejiamike Obiozor Moses, Public Relations Officer.
The event also featured discussions on community development and values, highlighting the role of the OIU in fostering unity and progress in Onitsha.
