The newly elected executive of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) Correspondents’ Chapel, on July 21, paid a courtesy visit to the Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, to strengthen collaboration between the chapel and the ministry.

The delegation, led by the Chairman of the chapel, Mr. Emmanuel Okonkwo, was received by the commissioner at his office in Awka, where discussions centred on media professionalism, staff development and improved service delivery.
Speaking during the visit, Mefor stressed the need for staff motivation and continuous capacity building, noting that a skilled and committed workforce remained critical to the effective discharge of the ministry’s mandate.

He said the Ministry of Information had the statutory responsibility of overseeing the Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) and was committed to addressing operational challenges affecting the organisation.
The commissioner said the ministry would engage the management of ABS to promote unity, professionalism and improved performance, adding that staff members must continually upgrade their skills to meet the evolving demands of modern journalism and public communication.

He also disclosed plans to visit the ABS newsroom to interact with management and editorial staff with a view to developing practical measures to improve productivity and service delivery.
Earlier, Okonkwo said the visit was to formally introduce the chapel’s newly elected executive, congratulate the commissioner on his appointment and seek closer collaboration with the ministry in promoting responsible journalism and effective dissemination of government information.
In a vote of thanks, the Secretary of the chapel, Mr. Emmanuel Chigbata, expressed appreciation to the commissioner for the warm reception and his willingness to engage with members of the union.
Chigbata said the new executive was committed to working closely with the ministry to advance professionalism, strengthen the relationship between the government and the media, and enhance public access to accurate and timely information.
