A community leader, and Lagos-based business mogul, Chief Edochie Onuorah, has urged Nigerian youths to reject the growing get-rich-quick mentality and embrace the enduring virtues of hard work, integrity and patience.

Chief Onuora, who is the Chief Executive Officer of ANAMNET Group of Companies Ltd., made the call during a New Year celebration held at his country home in Umuewelum Anam, Anambra West Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The event brought together youths, elders and other key community stakeholders to usher in the new year.

Chief Onuorah expressed deep concern over what he described as the rising culture of “ego mbute”—a mindset associated with instant wealth and material display without corresponding effort.

He warned that the trend was fast eroding moral values and posing a serious threat to national development.

The business mogul lamented that many young people were becoming increasingly obsessed with sudden success, social media glamour and unearned wealth, often neglecting diligence, skill acquisition and character building.

According to him, “ego mbute” is a dangerous illusion that promises quick prosperity but frequently ends in disappointment, crime and wasted potential.

The business leader stressed that Nigeria’s future largely depends on the quality, discipline and productivity of its youth, urging young people to channel their energy into education, craftsmanship, entrepreneurship and honest labour.

He maintained that sustainable success is built on consistent effort, resilience and a willingness to learn, rather than shortcuts.

Chief Edochie called on parents, guardians and community leaders to take active roles in mentoring the younger generation, noting that values are best transmitted through good example.

He also appealed for a collective effort to restore the dignity of labour and to celebrate achievements attained through lawful and ethical means, emphasizing that a disciplined, hardworking and value-driven youth population remains Nigeria’s greatest hope for renewal and sustainable progress.
