NYCN ANAMBRA CHAIRMAN INTERVENES IN ONITSHA HEADBRIDGE CRISIS, APPEALS FOR CALM

‎The Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Anambra State Chapter, Comrade Nwaebili Nonso Esq., has on Aug. 19,  intervened in the crisis at Onitsha Headbridge, calling for calm and helping to restore normalcy following a confrontation involving traders and the Nigeria Police Force.

‎The incident, which occurred at Ogbo Ogwu, Headbridge Market, reportedly sparked an angry reaction from youths and traders, who blocked the Onitsha–Asaba Expressway in protest, disrupting traffic along the major route. In a bid to de-escalate the situation, Nwaebili engaged the affected youths and traders, urging them to remain peaceful and refrain from actions that could further worsen the situation.

‎Expressing concern over the development, the NYCN chairman noted that Anambra State is renowned for peace and stressed the need for all stakeholders to prioritise the protection of lives and property. He assured the youths and traders that, as NYCN chairman in the state, he would engage relevant authorities and stakeholders to ensure that their grievances receive appropriate attention.

‎As part of his intervention, Nwaebili also visited hospitals where victims of the incident were receiving treatment. He expressed solidarity with the victims and pledged his support towards ensuring that they receive the necessary medical care.

‎During discussions with the police authorities, the Area Commander reportedly disclosed that the officers allegedly involved in the incident had been arrested and would face the law after investigations are concluded. He further stated that the police would bear the medical expenses of the direct victims of the incident.

‎Nwaebili subsequently urged youths across Anambra to shun violence and embrace dialogue and peaceful engagement in resolving disputes.
‎He said young people have a vital role to play in preserving peace and stability in the state, urging them to work with government and other stakeholders towards building a safer and more prosperous Anambra.
‎
‎The NYCN chairman also called on youths to continue serving as Peace Ambassadors, stressing that the collective aspiration should be to make Anambra a hub for investment, development and opportunities rather than a place people are compelled to leave.
