Awka, Dec. 14, 2017 -- The Anambra State Government has inaugurated the 2017 Ember Month Security Initiative, tagged ‘Operation Udoka’.

The team has Superintendent Uche Eze as its Operational Commander with members drawn from the Military and Para-military forces.

They include the Army, DSS, Immigration, NDLEA, NSCDC, Prisons, FRSC and the Vigilance services.

Performing the function at Benin Park, Onitsha, Gov. Willie Obiano said the programme was aimed at enhancing the security of citizens during the Yuletide.

Gov. Obiano urged the team to deploy professionalism in their assignment to enable them to achieve results.

The governor warned criminals to keep away from the state this yuletide as security agents would be battle-ready for them.

He noted that his latest electoral victory was what spurred him to do more good things for Ndi Anambra.

Gov. Obiano, then, urged indigenes to utilise the safe environment created by government to come home and celebrate with their loved ones.

In a speech, the Commissioner of Police Anambra State, Mr Garba Umar said that the programme was aimed at providing effective security to citizens during the Christmas and New Year period.

Mr Umar emphasised that the police had already commenced internal security policing ahead of the celebration.

He commended efforts of the governor in ensuring that the security agencies performed well with modern gadgets provided them.

``Operation Udoka is another laudable effort of Gov. Obiano to reinforce activities of all security agencies to secure all nooks and crannies of the state through effective patrols, stop and search.

``They will also show constant presence as well as prompt response to distress calls throughout the festive period.’’

In a vote of thanks, the Acting Inspector General of Police Zone 9,  Mr Hassan Karma, thanked the governor for helping the Nigerian Police Force in achieving effective policing of the state.
