Diaspora Affairs Commissioner tasks hoteliers on COVID-19 protocols

Awka, June 29, 2020 (MOl) Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs, indigenous Artworks, Culture and Tourism, Dr Christian Madubuko has directed hoteliers to ensure that the COVID-19 protocols are strictly observed within their premises.
The commissioner said this during a meeting with the Hotel Owners Association at the Conference Room of the Ministry at Jerome Udoji Secretariat, Awka.
``COVID-19 is real and it is deadly; ensure that your hotels are clean as cleanliness is next to godliness.
``Every Hotel in the state must be registered and have their operational permit for the government to have their data.
``We will meet from time to time to ensure the mandate of government is actualised and to redress your plight.
Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr Emma Umeokana enjoined them to cooperate with the Ministry by having their hotels registered.
``Registration of hotels is free and yet some of your members have not registered,’’ he observed.
President of the Association, Chief Dilim Okafor said that their businesses had been badly affected by COVID-19 pandemic and that they would like the government to grant them some waivers.
``We plead that the government will come to our aid by ensuring constant power supply, good access roads to our hotels and removal of multiple taxes.
``We will ensure that those who have yet to register their hotels will do soon.’’
Public Relation Officer of the Association, Mr Patrick Nnawe promised that the Association would support the commissioner. (MOI)
