ANAMBRA SET TO TRAIN 10,000 YOUTHS IN VARIOUS VOCATIONS

Awka, Oct. 10, 2018 (MOI) Anambra State Government is to train10, 000 youths in different skills annually.
Gov. Willie Obiano announced this during launch of Skills Acquisition Programme in Awka.
The first batch of 250 youths selected from the three senatorial districts of the state would undergo 3-week training at Nnewi, Abba and Aguleri.
Gov. Obiano, represented by his Deputy, Dr Nkem Okeke said the youths would be trained in Aluminium roofing, electrical works, tiling, catering, computer application and cosmetology.
The governor explained that the programme was part of government’s effort at ensuring that youths in the state were positively engaged.
He urged the trainees to be focused so as to acquire necessary skills that would help them to become self-reliant.
Commissioner for Youth Entrepreneurship and Creative Economy, Mr Bonaventure Enemali had stressed the importance of skills acquisition in solving problems associated with youth restiveness.
``The present administration initiated the programme in order to ensure that youths in the area are empowered to contribute to national development.’’
Mr Enemali explained that the training would be conducted every three weeks for different batches.
``Government was also partnering with the private sector to ensure that it achieves the target of empowering 10,000 youths annually.”
The Commissioner noted that at the end of the training, the youths would be provided with soft loans to start their own businesses.
Managing Director, Anambra Small Business Agency (ASBA), Mr Clement Chukwuka pointed out that a N3billion loan facility had been made available for the programme.
``The trainees on completion of their training will be required to come out with comprehensive business plan before accessing the loans.”
Mr Chukwuka noted that the agency in previous years provided micro credit to more than seven thousand small and medium scale enterprises.
In an interview, two of the trainees, Mabel
Okafor and Amaechi Ejeogu commended the government for introducing the
programme which they said would help to build and uplift youths in the state.
