Awka, Nov. 9, 2018 (MOI) Anambra State Government has re-assured its workforce that they are still of utmost priority to the current administration in the state.

Gov. Willie Obiano gave the assurance while receiving a team from the National Pension Commission (Pencom), Abuja at Government House, Awka.

The team, a supervisory body of PENCOM was in the state to enquire at implementation of the contributory pension scheme in Anambra State, as well as other related pension matters.

While stressing the importance of the scheme, Obiano noted that the present administration was aware of the need for every employee of the state to be part of the scheme.

``Anambra will in no distance time, live up to its promise of implementing the scheme, even in the midst of challenges,’’ he said.

Gov. Obiano was represented at the occasion by his Deputy, Dr Nkem Okeke.

Earlier, the Acting Head of Operations, National Pencom, Mr Dan Ndackson explained that the contributory Pension scheme was collectively agreed upon by governors of the 36 states across the country.

The new scheme was enacted because the previous pension scheme encountered challenges.

Ndackson noted that the pension reform was reflected in the amended Federal Law in 2014, and the National Pencom Commission charged with the sole responsibility of regulation and supervision of pension matters.

He commended the state for keying into the Contributory Pension Scheme as far back as 2013, stressing that the scheme would be more beneficial to state government than to the employees.

``The scheme has immediate benefits for government and a long time benefit for the employees,’’ Ndackson said.

The state team during the visit include the State Head of Service, Barr Harry Udu, the Attorney-General, Dr Uju Nwogu and the Accountant-General. (MOI)
