COOU REAFFIRMS BAN ON SIGN-OUT CELEBRATIONS, WARNS STUDENTS OF STRICT DISCIPLINARY ACTION

The Management of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) has restated its ban on sign-out celebrations, warning that students who violate the institution’s policy will face strict disciplinary action.
The directive was contained in a memorandum dated August 6, issued by the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs and signed by the Dean, Prof. Innocent C. Ngangah.
According to the memorandum, the University expressed concern over the continued violation of its long-standing prohibition on sign-out celebrations, despite repeated warnings to students.
The Management disclosed that unauthorized sign-out activities were held on August 4 and 5 in Otoko/Awkuzu, Awka, and Uli, involving students from seven academic departments.
The affected departments include Economics, Political Science, Criminology, English, Microbiology, Mechanical Engineering, and Sociology.
Describing the incidents as gross misconduct and a clear act of disobedience to constituted authority, the University said the actions contravene its rules, regulations, and disciplinary code.
The memorandum warned that students, departmental executives, and any other persons found organizing, participating in, or facilitating the prohibited celebrations would be subjected to disciplinary measures in line with University regulations.
Possible sanctions, it noted, include appearance before the Students’ Disciplinary Committee, suspension, withholding of examination results or clearance, and any other penalties as may be determined by the University Senate.
The Management urged all students to desist from participating in sign-out celebrations and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining discipline, order, and strict compliance with the institution’s rules.
